still moving slow…

My trusty Mac is still super slow and having some difficulties, so I apologize for the lack of posts! But it certainly wasn’t due to a lack of trying!

Since loading photos is out of the question, according to my computer anyway, how about some links? What blogs do I read,  you ask? Mostly food, crafting, fashion, and decor blogs, with the occasional odd ball tossed in for good measure. Here are a few you might enjoy…

This blog has helped my adjustment back into LA life after my month in Paris. At least I can still see the streets like I’m still there!

Speaking of Paris, these are fun blogs that are written by Parisians.

I really like Lena’s work. Who doesn’t? And her blog is pretty and free of fluff. Just beautiful photos and brief text.

This blog is all sewing all the time. And please, of course I like that!

crafting for yourself

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about making more things for myself. One of the bad things about turning your craft into your job is that I hardly ever make anything for myself anymore. I know others in my line of work feel that too. But I’m thinking more and more about changing that. I’ve already planned that during my September Parisian holiday I’m going to crochet myself a scarf (once my mom teaches me of course!).

In thinking about crafting more for me, I’ve starting looking around flickr at quilts. I’m obviously an experienced sewer, but I’ve never quilted before. Well, once I made a quilt-like throw for my parents using men’s dress shirts, but it was hardly a proper quilt. I’m thinking about possibly making myself a quilt for my bed and have begun peeking around for some inspiration.

So far, I’m enjoying these that I found…

Friday Friends: Sprout Studio

If you’re remotely near Brooklyn this weekend, you’d be a fool not to stop by the one and only Renegade Craft Fair, as it makes its annual stop in New York City. And while you’re there, you simply must stop by the booth of my dear friend Jenifer, who runs sprout*studio.

If you don’t know her goods, they might look familiar to you, as they are on nearly every model on my website. Why? Because they are pretty much the only jewelry I wear. What can I say? I love her creations!

But, sprout*studio is about more than just jewelry. There’s art, clothing, ceramics, and so much more. All handmade by Jenifer herself. But, as she and her husband are about to scoot away for the summer to Europe, you had better order today from her site! Or, check her booth out this weekend in New York.

If you’re a West Coaster, don’t fret, as I will be selling both my own goods and hers too when the Renegade Craft Fair makes its San Francisco and Los Angeles stops in July.

orla = love

I recently received this gorgeous Orla Kiely tote for a “happy book launch” / “you need a cute new tote for Paris” gift. Isn’t it beautiful? I love it. And nearly everything else on her site is worth breaking the piggy bank for too.

home ec heaven

The LA craft powerhouse Jenny Ryan has launched the new and beautifully gorgeous Home Ec Shop website, which is a sub-store within the equally fantastic ReForm School shop in Silver Lake.

At the new site you’ll find a full e-commerce version of their brick and mortar shop, a blog, and information on all the classes happening on site. Some are taught by yours truly!

Not only is the site full of information and shopping, but it’s gorgeous to look at. Not surprisingly, it was designed by the fantastic Lindsay of Purr Design, who just happened to do my site too!

welcome to 2009

With laptops, iphones, palms, and more, who really uses traditional calendars anymore? I know I don’t. But, when I spotted this screenprinted hanging calendar from design queen, Lotta Jansdotter, I knew I had to have one.

And lucky for your latecomers, it’s on super sale since the year has already begun. I hung mine on the lemon yellow walls of my kitchen (I picked up the orange printed version on beige linen). My only disappointment is that they are printed overseas. But otherwise, they are divine.

She also has an amazing book out that I actually won at a Craft Magazine party at ReForm School, which is all about printing at home. I highly recommend it.

Design Genius: Kelly Wearstler

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I was walking with a friend by the newly rehabbed Eastern Columbia Loft building in downtown LA last week, and we got to talking about Kelly Wearstler who designed the model units.

Few people have the ability to combine different styles and influences into a seamless space, but Kelly Wearstler is one of the exceptions. I’m not into fussy, I’m more of a clean minimalist type, and although there is always a lot going on in her interiors, they aren’t restricting or confining. She maintains a sense of breath and approachability that I so admire. Her amazingly designed Santa Monica Viceroy Hotel is down the street from my home, but I still hope to have a rendezvous there one day.

To see more of her projects, buy her books, or to browse her collection of home accessories, stop by her site.
