Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the crisp cool autumn air. I love that the days are mixed with sunshine and gray rainstorms. I love watching the leaves turning color, and slowly dropping off the trees, filling curbs, lawns, and walkways with crunchy reds, oranges, yellows, and browns. It’s a time of renewal: back to school, back to work, and back to life after your summer holiday.
When it comes to fashion, I love the layering and the lush palette and fabrics that autumn brings. Plaid, wool, tweed, and other menswear fabrics are suddenly female appropriate. Quieting down and darkening your colors to black, charcoal, brown, dark green, and navy. All of this is so refreshing to me.
This year I’m particularly excited about fall approaching, as I have another Parisian holiday coming up. Okay, technically it’s coming up in the winter, but I am already super excited about buying a real winter coat, boots, hat, scarf, and gloves. I’m sure this novelty isn’t as fun for someone who lives in a cold climate, but for this Los Angeles girl, the idea of a cozy sweater and a hot cup of tea in a warm apartment with winter out my window, sounds simply delightful. Of course, having the winter landscape be Paris out your window certainly doesn’t hurt any.
In dreaming of autumn and winter dressing, I’ve been looking at the fall 2010 collections on-line. Some are simply divine and inspiring for my vacation wardrobe planning. I know it might seem too early for wardrobe planning when the trip is 4 months away, but to me, that’s just the right amount of time! (I’ve even started growing out my bangs so they are more winter-appropriate when the time comes. Yes, I’m kinda crazy like that!) On my checklist are the following: a classic winter coat (black or charcoal), hat/scarf/gloves (color TBD), chic boots in black that happen to be waterproof (note: not winter boots!), and a new black leather bag that closes up so when it’s raining, my stuff doesn’t get wet.
My favorites of the fall collections are some of the same that everyone else loved, so some of these might not be new to you, but that’s fine, they are worth looking at again and again. Below are highlights from the Orla Kiely Fall 2010 collection and the Prada Fall 2010 collection. Tomorrow, look for more! And note: the top left Orla Kiely image… how amazing is that black leather bag with her classic print embossed into the leather? Shut up. I think that’s my new black bag.
