I got felt up

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to Felt Club! It was such a fun day and it was so nice to see both old friends and meet new fans too! Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hi!

A highlight of my booth: my mom knitted braided headbands! Pictured here are Jenny Ryan on the left, the founder and organizer of Felt Club (just one of her many talents) and Wendy Jung on the right, who hand cut the silhouette logo of me I use on my site, both sporting headbands made by my mom. Now that Felt Club is done and gone, look for some fall and winter treats in the shop!

felt club this sunday!

Visit me this Sunday at LA’s premier indie designer, artist, and craft event: Felt Club!

Hosted by three-time Martha Stewart guest, LA’s beloved histotainer Charles Phoenix, this family-friendly event features nearly twice as many crafters as last year - over 125! - a full snack bar offering salads, sandwiches, pastries, coffee (plus beer, wine & MARGARITAS!) great music from DJs Lance Rock (Yo Gabba Gabba), Dirty Robot and Mr. Cocoon.

You will also be treated to a few ditties from Mother Gem herself, Leslie Hall (who will also be vending!). You can even wrap up your new finds in the DIY Recycled Gift wrap booth, hosted by ReForm School.

It’s all going down at a brand new location: the Shrine Auditorium Expo Center in downtown LA. The first 250 visitors get a swag bag full of outstanding treats from our sponsors & vendors, plus Felt Club will be giving away awesome door prizes all day long.

Admission is free for kids under 13, for everyone else they are asking for a $5 donation at the door. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Handmade Nation, the forthcoming documentary film chronicling the rise of art, craft, and design (featuring yours truly!).

DIY Workshops too, you say?
Felt Club isn’t just about snapping up amazing handmade gifts, it’s also about learning new things. They are offering more workshops than ever this year thanks to sponsors like Quarry Books and the Urban Craft Center, who will both be hosting book signings and make & takes in their booths. Sublime Stitching’s Jenny Hart will also be schooling folks in the art of embroidery, while French General’s Kaari Meng will lead a jewelry workshop. Visit the Felt Club Info Table on Sunday to sign up.

Where (& What?) is the Shrine Auditorium Expo Center?
Simply put, it’s a gorgeous & historic Moorish-style auditorium in downtown L.A. that boasts over 54,000 feet of usable space. So I’m not kidding when I say this year’s Felt Club is going to be bigger and better than ever! No overcrowding here.

The Shrine is located at 700 W. 32nd Street, L.A. CA 90007. For directions and parking info, please visit their site here.

Please come by and get your holiday shopping done in one guilt-free location! Buying directly from the artists and designers who handmade each item with love is so much better than funding the pockets of some fat cat mall store owner. And how often do you get to meet all of us in one spot?

Here’s a roundup of all the details:

sounds of 70’s men

Here’s another addition to my sounds from the 70’s that I seem to be obsessed with at the moment.
Please enjoy one of my favorite James Taylor songs recorded live from 1971.
And doesn’t he look adorable?

let your voice be heard

Whichever side you fall on, it is critical that you let your voice be heard.
There are many crucial ballot measures, senate seats, and of course, the presidential race to speak up about.
So use your power and get out and vote!
