Join me at the historic Ox-Bow School of Art for Improvisational Visible Mending. Students will enjoy the slow & meditative process of mending garments & other fiber-based items. In this workshop, you will learn hand stitching, embroidery techniques, & Japanese sashiko & boro techniques. We will then use those skills, along with fabric patches, to create patterns & textures that will repair, honor, & extend the life of your clothing. We will also explore and gather inspiration from historical & modern mending, that you can use in your own practice and apply to items brought from home.

Join me at the historic Ox-Bow School of Art for Hand Sewn Narratives. Students will learn how to create a hand sewn quilt top embellished with a narrative, inspired by the story of their choosing. You will learn about both historical and modern quilt designs, gather inspiration from our own personal histories, & then design our own individual quilt tops. The stories on your quilt can depict a linear narrative, an abstract representation, a pictorial illustration, or simply a celebration of meaningful fabrics. Using needle turn appliqué, fabric collage, embroidery embellishment, & hand sewn seams, each student will learn the joy of meditative hand sewing.

I am thrilled to be returning to Brooklyn for two in-person workshops! The second is the Dune Tank & Briefs, my newest cozy loungewear pattern! Learn to sew the classic fit & flare Emery Dress with me at Fancy Tiger in Denver, CO! Join me for this weekend retreat intensive, and sew every single step of the pattern with my guiding hand. Students will learn how to take proper measurements, how to layout, cut, and mark the fabric, as well as how to sew all the construction steps, including darts, understitching, gathering, in-seam pockets, setting sleeves, lining the bodice, the invisible zipper, and more! Please note that this retreat does not focus on fitting, though I will go over basic pattern adjustments and assist with minor fitting issues as needed. Your class fee includes 18 hours of instruction, use of sewing machines and basic notions, lunch on Saturday and Sunday, and water and snacks throughout the weekend. The retreat runs Friday, August 7-Sunday, August 9 with the following times: Friday, 08/07/20 1pm - 5pm; Saturday, 08/08/20, 10am - 6pm; Sunday, 08/09/20, 10am - 6pm.
