Behind the scenes, I’ve been hard at work on a new website and blog and I’m happy to announce that the blog is ready to go! The website is nearly there, but I have the unpleasant task of changing hosts and servers and that is going to take some time. But in the meantime, I’m going to launch my new blog: City Stitching with Christine Haynes!
Unlike this blog, which is a real mix of my life, style, fashion, music, film, and sewing, my new blog will really focus largely on sewing, fashion, style, and crafts. I will post a bit of behind the scenes action, and I like to see some insight to the lives of the bloggers whom I follow, but it will be kept to a minimum.
You can look forward to more posts about the sewing projects I’m working on, tutorials, sew-a-longs, and more! So, this is your warning… PLEASE bookmark my new site! If you’re following my blog on a reader program, please take a moment to unsubscribe from this feed and resubscribe to my new feed!
Oh, and if you want to revisit anything on this blog, it will stay just the way it is as an archive. Since my new blog is on blogger and this blog is 5 years worth of posts on the WordPress platform, I’m unable to import it. So it will remain here as an archive.
Thanks all for following me for the last 5 years, and let’s move on together to a better site! See you on Blogger!
I’m super excited to announce that me and the other lovely ladies at Sew L.A. are hosing the lovely Sarai Mitnick, founder and designer of Colette Patterns, for her Los Angeles book party for her gorgeous volume, The Colette Sewing Handbook! The big event takes place on Saturday, February 18 from 6-9pm at Sew L.A.!
Sarai will be on hand to chat, sign books, and just be overall fabulous! We will also have all kinds of fun goodies! We’re setting up a photo booth area with some fun props, there will be lots of treats to eat and drink all based on Colette Pattern names (the eclair, the taffy, the macaron!), and the space will be filled with Colette Pattern garments for a trunk show!
And if all that wasn’t enough, all our in stock Colette Patterns will be 20% off, with an additional 10% off for those people that come in their handmade Colette creations!!! We are so excited and honored that Sarai has picked us to host her Los Angeles book launch party and I hope you join us!

If you live in Los Angeles and are a lover of French films, this is the time for you! This week, Cinefamily is hosting a week-long Godard film festival! In addition to some of his older classics, (Contempt, Masculine Feminine, Breathless, and more!) they are also showing his latest film, Film Socialisme, from 2010 with full English subtitles, for the first time ever in the United States! Monsouier Godard is 81 years old, so one never knows if this will be his last film or not. (I hope not!)
I have tickets to the Saturday night double feature of his new Film Socialisme, paired with one of my all-time favorites, A Woman is a Woman. I’m super excited to see it again on the big screen! Below is the line up. Check out one of these great nights of film for yourself!
Friday, January 20th: 5:15pm, 7:45pm (shown as second film w/ Breathless)
Saturday, January 21st: 2:30pm, 7:30pm (shown as second film w/ A Woman Is A Woman)
Sunday, January 22nd: 1:00pm
Monday, January 23rd: 5:15pm, 7:45pm (shown as second film w/ Vivre Sa Vie)
Tuesday, January 24th: 5:15pm, 7:45pm (shown as second film w/ Contempt)
Wednesday, January 25th: 5:15pm, 7:45pm (shown as second film w/ Pierrot Le Fou)
Thursday, January 26th: 5:15pm, 7:45pm (shown as second film w/ Masculin Feminin)
Join me this Saturday for my first Intro to Sewing class of 2012! Each year I mix up the project, and this year we’ll be making the adorable 20-minute tote from Purl Soho! Read all about the details at the UCC website and sign up today!
Next week Wednesday I am starting a 3-week class for the Sew Liberated Schoolhouse Tunic! There are still a few spots open, so join in and make your very own! It’s a perfect toss-on-and-go item, that you can make in a longer dress-like length, or shorten to a top version. My last class had great results and if you check out the Sew Liberated flickr pool, you’ll see a bunch of other cute versions to get inspired by!
I LOVE Wes Anderson films. Love them. All of them. So needless to say I’m rather excited about this newest, Moonrise Kingdom. It has all the classic Wes Anderson traits: great cast, center justified everything, muted tones, and good music. It’s scheduled for a limited release on May 25. I can’t wait!
